Water Pressure Regulator Replacement in Raleigh, NC

Replaced a failed water pressure regulator that was allowing the home’s water pressure to reach 110 PSI, above the maximum recommended residential pressure of 80 PSI.

New brass pressure-reducing valve with union connections, joined to the supply piping in the crawl space
The failed pressure-reducing valve before replacement, heavily corroded on the copper supply line

    Problem, Diagnosis & Work Completed

Replaced a failed water pressure regulator that was allowing the home’s water pressure to reach 110 PSI, above the maximum recommended residential pressure of 80 PSI.

    Assessment Findings:

    • The existing pressure-reducing valve (PRV) was corroded and no longer controlling water pressure properly.
    • Excessive pressure was placing added stress on plumbing connections, fixtures, and appliances.

    Work Completed:

    • Shut off the water supply and removed the failed regulator.
    • Updated the connecting piping to accommodate the new valve.
    • Installed a new PRV with accessible union connections for future maintenance.
    • Restored the water supply and checked all connections for leaks.

    Result

The failed regulator was replaced, addressing the source of excessive water pressure. All connections were checked after installation to verify a leak-free repair.

    Project Highlights

    • Corroded pressure-reducing valve removed
    • New PRV installed with accessible union connections
    • All connections checked for leaks after restart
